A good Blacksmith routine can make the difference between a build that feels stuck and one that holds up in Torment. It is not just a place to clear your bags anymore. Your D4 items become part of a longer upgrade plan here, from the moment you pick up a useful legendary through to the point where it is ready for The Pit. Most players notice this after a few rough boss attempts: better rolls help, but smart crafting helps more.

Clear space and keep materials moving

Start with Salvage whenever your inventory is full. Selling gear looks tempting early on, yet dismantling spare pieces usually pays off better once crafting costs begin to climb. Rawhide, Iron Chunks, Veiled Crystals, and Forgotten Souls all disappear faster than you would expect. Mark obvious leftovers as junk during a run, then use the quick salvage options when you return to town. Be a little careful with legendary pieces, though. Check aspects and item power before turning anything into materials.

Repair before the run goes bad

Durability is easy to forget until a death leaves part of your setup broken. Then the missing stats hit hard. The repair option is simple, thankfully: fix equipped gear only, or pay to restore everything in the bag as well. Before a stronghold, a Torment boss, or a long Pit session, take five seconds and check it. It is a small gold cost compared with losing a promising run because your weapon or armour stopped contributing.

Temper with a plan, not on a whim

Tempering is where a decent item starts fitting your actual build. Manuals unlock groups of possible affixes for weapons, offence, defence, utility, movement, and resources. You will not always land the stat you wanted, so do not use valuable attempts without checking the whole manual pool. A sensible order looks like this.

Pick the item that already has strong core affixes.
Choose the manual that supports your main skill or survival need.
Use temper attempts before spending heavily on later upgrades.
Keep a backup item when the slot is especially important.

Spend big only on gear worth keeping

Masterworking belongs at the end of the process, once an ancestral item is tempered and genuinely fits the build. Each of its twelve ranks raises the item, while ranks four, eight, and twelve give one affix a much larger boost. That bonus can land on the wrong line, and resetting is possible, but it burns more materials and gold. Farm Obducite through The Pit, save your D4 Gold for sale budget for proven upgrades, and do not pour resources into gear you expect to replace tomorrow.
